Checkmate was
dedicated on a beautiful December day.

Bob Lowry,
representing the Public Art Committee, was the master of
ceremonies.

Karen Oxman
represented the Golden City Council and thanked the Civic
Foundation and the Rotary Club for the financial support that
enabled Golden to acquire this piece.

The sculptor,
Herb Mignery, discussed the meaning and structure of the
piece.

Herb described
the process of using an older, seasoned horse to train a young
horse.

Rotary
President Bob Short, scuptor Herb Mignery, and Golden Civic
Foundation Vice President Dave Powers. It was Bob who
originally spotted the piece in a hotel in Houston and
arranged for Golden to acquire it. The Rotary Club and
Golden Civic Foundation both provided financial support for
the acquisition.

Here's how checkmate looked in its original location.
