If your organization would
like to apply for a grant from the Golden Civic Foundation, please follow
the guidelines set forth on this page. Please note that we review
grant applications twice a year, in April and September.
The Golden Civic Foundation
was organized as a 501(c)(3) public foundation in 1970 to operate for
charitable and civic purposes for the citizens of Golden.
Since its inception the Foundation has awarded about $1,850,000
to non-profit organizations and city schools in Golden and capital
projects for the city of Golden.
Generally, only one
request is considered from an organization during any twelve month period.
The Foundation does not consider grants to organizations which
discriminate on the basis of race, creed or sex. Additionally, no
grants will be made to an organization whose primary purpose is to
influence legislation or to participate in any political campaign.
Charitable Purposes:
The Foundation is generally supportive of community and human service
agencies which assist the disadvantaged in their efforts to be self-sufficient
and productive.
Civic Purposes: Programs
supported by the Foundation are typically those which enhance Golden's
culture and heritage and are likely to be of economic benefit to and broadly
used by the Golden Community.
The Foundation will
not consider grants for:
- Direct support of individuals
- Endowments
- Research projects
- Churches, church projects, or
religious organizations
- Conferences, symposium, or workshops
- Debt retirement or operational
deficits
- General operating expenses
- Production of films or other media-related
projects
- Preschools, day care centers,
nursing homes, etc.
- Programs designed to influence
legislation or elect candidates to public office
- Tickets, raffles, golf outings
or sponsorships
A letter requesting a grant
should include a general description of the program or project and the
pertinent information as indicated below.

applicant organization

and purpose of the organization
- Most recent copy of IRS letter
of tax-exemption status

address
Project budget

Other funding sources and the amounts
Only one copy of the request
needs to be submitted, and it should be noted if any parts of the proposal
are to be returned. If some of the above information is not
available, please indicate that in your request.
The
Golden Civic Foundation's Board will generally consider proposals twice
per year: at its April and September board meetings. Proposals
should be submitted to the Executive Director by the 15th of March and
by the 15th of August. Grants will be disbursed when the funds are needed by the
requesting organization.
Organizations receiving grants are
encouraged to recognize the Civic Foundation in printed material regarding
the specific project and allow the Foundation to use the name of the
recipient organization in Foundation publicity.
The Golden Civic Foundation
is eager to support those organizations which benefit the Golden community.
Applying for a grant isn't difficult. Just follow the guidelines
given above. If you have any questions, please contact the Executive
Director for more information.
