HISTORY
In the late 1960's several business owners
saw that Golden had many needs for which tax
revenues and other public funds were simply
not available. They therefore formed the
Golden Civic Foundation. The Foundation was
incorporated on April 14, 1970, under the
Colorado Non-Profit Act. The first
organizational meeting was held on May 19,
1970.
The purpose of the Golden Civic Foundation
is to raise funds primarily from private
sources and to use them for the betterment
of Golden. The Foundation funds charitable
and cultural organizations in Golden and
makes improvements to various public
properties. It also acquires underutilized
properties to sell to organizations that
will develop them to enhance the beauty and
economic vitality of the city.
The first Board of Directors included F.A.
Foss, F.J. Pattridge, W.G. Brown, C. Goudge,
and R.W. Todd. Over 25 other individuals
have also served as a director of the
Foundation.
Almost Every Major Capital Project in Golden
has benefited from the Golden Civic
Foundation's efforts during the last four
decades. From the Table Mountain Inn to the
American Mountaineering Center,the Golden
Visitors Center to the Golden Hotel, the
Foundation has invested more than $850,000
to economic and community development since
1970. Another $1,000,000 has gone to enhance
schools, charities and cultural
organizations throughout the city.
