| In
the late 1960's several business owners saw that Golden had many needs for which
tax revenues and other public funds were simply not available. They therefore
formed the Golden Civic Foundation. The Foundation was incorporated on April
14, 1970, under the Colorado Non-Profit Act. The first organizational meeting
was held on May 19, 1970. The
purpose of the Golden Civic Foundation is to raise funds primarily from private
sources and to use them for the betterment of Golden. The Foundation funds
charitable and cultural organizations in Golden and makes improvements to various
public properties. It also acquires underutilized properties to sell to
organizations that will develop them to enhance the beauty and economic vitality
of the city. The
first Board of Directors included F.A. Foss, F.J. Pattridge, W.G. Brown, C. Goudge,
and R.W. Todd. Over 25 other individuals have also served as a director
of the Foundation. Since
1970, the Foundation has contributed about $600,000 to capital projects in the
city. It has contributed another $600,000 to charitable and cultural organizattions.

Civic Foundation is managed by a seven-member Board of Directors. A Board

or own a business in Golden. Board members are not compensated for their
services. A Board Member can serve two consecutive three year terms. The
Board is assisted by non-voting advisory members, a part time paid Executive Director,
and a part time fund raiser. The Executive Director is responsible for publicity,
the annual auction, and the day to day operations.
The
Board of Directors meets at least once a week to discuss current projects. Grant
